I want to tell you something most people in finance would never admit publicly: I once owed the IRS thousands of dollars — and I have a Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
From 2021 to 2023, I ran an online dropshipping business. I was making money, working hard, and proud of what I was building. But I had no idea how to track my income properly. No idea how to log my expenses. No idea that self-employed people are supposed to pay taxes quarterly. And no idea that something called self-employment tax even existed.

💡 The turning point
That painful experience forced me to finally put my accounting degree to work. I got certified as a professional bookkeeper, earned my QuickBooks Level 1 and Level 2 certifications and my Intuit Bookkeeping certification, and dedicated myself to helping self-employed people navigate the financial side of working for themselves. I built setaxcalc.com — and the 1099 Survival Kit — because I never want another freelancer, contractor, or online seller to go through what I went through.
Today I specialize in bookkeeping for freelancers, 1099 contractors, and small business owners — exactly the people who need it most and are most often left to figure it out alone.
